In 1984 I earned my Master in Education in Counseling. For several years I practiced my counseling skills at my church. Toward the end of 1989 I took a job at a free standing alcohol and drug counseling center and was promoted to Clinical Supervisor the following year. I stayed there for thirteen years and then began work at the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center working with men seeking recovery and a new start at a better life. After seven years I changed the direction of my counseling career and worked at a hospital-based in-patient psychiatric unit. From January 2003 until March 2017 I also worked part-time providing divorcing parents with a court mandated education program about the effects of divorce upon children. I also have had a private practice working with adult individuals and couples. In addition to my counseling degree I have earned a Bachelor degree in Psychology and a Masters in Divinity.
My approach to counseling is based upon the Cognitive Behavior Theory that thoughts lead to feelings which lead to actions. One of the ideas of Brief Therapy is to help the individual reach a solution on their own with guidance. It is not necessary to analyze problems, but it is necessary to analyze client solutions.. Many couples have relationship issues due to abuse, addiction, communication or mental health. Sometimes the issues are the result of solutions that do not adequately address the problems. My education and experience can help those seeking outside assistance. Many couples find it helpful to speak with a professional to gain new perspectives. My experience and education can help.

Thank you David for all your help
David was vital in helping me to communicate things that I struggled to and was beyond kind and wise every time we spoke.
Simple and straight to the point. Nothing but wise real talk, exactly what I need right now.
He takes a very fair approach to couples counseling. The work he got us to do has really helped.
